Sorcha has been playing the harp and piano since she was eight years old, having completed the Royal Irish Academy of Music Grades in both instruments. She was taught by the internationally renowned harpist Gráinne Hambly whom she regards as a great influence. She has taught at several international traditional music summer schools including the South Sligo Summer School in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, the Joe Mooney International Summer School in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim and the International Carolan Festival in Keadue, Co. Roscommon.
She is the harpist in residence for Markree Castle, Sligo and has performed on many occasions in Dún Guaire Castle in Kinvara as part of the Bunratty group. She has also performed for President Mary McAleese, amongst other state dignitaries, and she has taken part in the Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann production Seisiún over several years in both Sligo town and the Ceoláras Coleman in Gurteen.
She is a regular session player in and around Connacht and has also toured France with CCÉ. She has several awards at All-Ireland level in the competitions run by CCÉ solo disciplines on both harp and piano, in addition to duet, trio and group competition prizes. She has also been awarded prizes at An t’Oireachtas. Sorcha is from Sligo in the West of Ireland but now resides in Dublin.
